With the Nook and the Kindle making a comeback with their lower prices attracting more and more customers and Sony also shedding some dollars from the price tags, you might think that the range of affordable eReaders is made up of only these devices.

The Jetbook Mini has also joined the ranks of e-Readers priced lower than the magical $100 number, and the Kobos has been out there for quite a long while.
Still, there exists another eReader in this budget category which for some reason has been unnoticed but which offers quite an outstanding number of features making it a strong competitor on the budget eReader market.

First of all, Augen The Book shares the design of Kindle 6" Amazon device, only with a darker shade while Amazon’s device has a white finish.Augen also has an attractive color display whereas Kindle 2 has kept it in black and white. Augen’s display is a 7" LCD screen with a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels. This feature is not as impressive compared, for example, to the Pandigital Novel eReader with its 800 x 600 resolution.
The eBook Reader Augen has a 2GB internal memory and a slot for an SD card so that the storage can be expanded further. The device is operated by Linux, ver. 2.6.24.

Augen The Book’s other features are a web browser and WiFi. There’s also a nice “Text to Speech” feature for when you’re not in the mood to read and just want to listen to the book.

The device supports video playback. Another convenient feature is note taking and text editing.The eBook Reader Augen is connected to ebooksmedia which allows you to download a number of eBooks, although compared to the B&N or Amazon book stores some of the prices are exorbitant.
Augen The Book is a very compact device, with a size of 8.9x5.1x5 inches (226x130x127 mm) and a weight of just 10 ounces (284g).
