iPhone Boosts Apple to World's Leaders in Smartphone Shipment

New statistics from Strategy Analytics says that in the second quarter Cupertino was on the first  place among world’s smartphone vendors. However, according to IDC, if we compare the share of Apple in the same quarter last year we find that the share was doubled. And here a question comes if Apple needs the iPhone 5 at all.

iPhone Boosts Apple

The number of iPhones that Apple shipped in the second quarter of 2011 is 20.3 million, thus the number has considerably increased since last year from 8.4 million. And now Apple has 18.5 percent of the world’s smartphone market and the number is quite big in comparison with 13.5 percent last year.

It was previously said that Apple is going to become the world’s smartphone vendor in terms of revenue and profits. And now according to Strategy Analytics Apple has the share of 18 percent and that means it has really become the world’s largest world’s smartphone vendor, and this happened just in four years after the release of the original iPhone.

Samsung shipped 19.2 million smartphones and this number is equal to 17.5 percent of the global market, so as we see it is not far behind from Apple. For Samsung it is a great bounce from last year too when it produced only 3.1 million smartphones and it is just 5 percent of the global market. Success of Samsung and Apple was not to the advantage of Nokia as it lost 17.9 percent of the global market, from 38.2 percent last year to 15.2 at the time.

But in any case Nokia is still on the first place In terms of overall shipments of smartphones and feature phones. During the second quarter Nokia shipped 88.5 million handsets, but it is less than 20 percent. Samsung takes the second place, it shipped 74 million and that is 16 percent rise. then goes LG which shipped 24.8 million and that is 19 percent fall. Now there is only one percentage point between, Strategy Analytics that it is the closest position Apple has been.

IDC gives the same numbers, it says Nokia, Samsung, and LG to be leaders of the mobile phone market. However due to the Apple's boost shipment quarter the gap between the leaders and Apple is extremely small.
Notwithstanding the fact that Apple’s iPhone4 is more than a year old now Apple managed to compete with three world leaders. Apple managed to more than double the share at the market due to triple-digit production volume growth.

Sales of 20.3 million iPhones in this quarter are reported by IDC, and this is 5.6 percent share in the global handset phone market and a boost from the same time last year is 141.8 percent. However company’s  fortunes in future  develop on Apple ‘s ability to bring its smartphone momentum to developing countries.

They say Apple is constructing a cheaper iPhone or developing markets and it is prepping a new iPhone 5 of the next generation, we can already wait foe a debut which may occur supposedly in September.
